Where in the world is Danielle Austen?

It’s been six months since I last posted any blogs and I haven’t been on Twitter and Facebook in weeks. What’s going on?

Making myself 50 shades of unpopular

50 Shades of Grey is a tricky subject for erotica authors to express their opinions on. Either you say that you love it and risk everyone viewing your work as an attempt at a cheap cash-in; or you say that you hate it and risk alienating your target audience. Truth be told, I haven't read it. However, on a recent quiet evening with hubby and a bottle of spiced rum, I did watch the movie – during which I Tweeted:
I received a surprising amount of comments both on Twitter and Facebook asking for more detail and analysis, and it's a fair point. Why did I say I was angry? Read on after the jump…

Good dirty fun

A story of how I spent hours rolling in the mud with strangers male and female alike. Or, an erotica author's personal account of completing her first Tough Mudder. If you're not aware of Tough Mudder, it's a 10-12 mile obstacle course across sites all over the world. As the name implies, it features a lot of mud. As well as barbed wire, electric shocks, giant walls, and shipping containers filled with ice. Read on after the jump for my full write-up!
(Note: all pictures in the main article are of Tough Mudder and are in the public domain. None of the pictures are of me or anyone else in my team!)

2015 in review

As the end of 2015 approaches you may have noticed that I've not released a single book all year, not even a short story. My social media usage has noticeably declined, and blog posts have dipped in frequency. I've written before about how the declining erotica market has driven many a new author away from the genre; in fact the majority of the guest authors I've featured here are no longer active. But don't be alarmed - I'm not amongst them. I am still here, I do occasionally throw some thoughts down onto paper, and I do still intend to get back on the proverbial horse. That said, it's been a funny old year. Read on after the jump for a summary of my year and what is possibly my most personal blog post ever!

My take on "Pornification"

A while back Sylvia Storm, site mistress of E-Read Erotica Reviews, posted a brilliant article about the "pornification" of the modern world. After she posted it, I said to look out for my thoughts on it. Only those thoughts never materialised, because I decided to spend my time doing "real life" things instead; but it's been one of those things niggling in the back of my mind ever since. So finally, here it is. Go and read Sylvia's article now, and then come back when you're finished. Read it? Good. Read on after the jump for my much belated response!

Guest blog & short story: Pages Of Vision (Amy Ward) / Emily Alexander

Stopping by this month is Amy Ward (who also writes romantic fiction as Emily Alexander), a blogger and authoress who wants to inspire others to start writing. Fittingly she's shared a guest blog post to that effect; and she's also included an entire short story of hers for your reading enjoyment. Read on after the jump! xoxo

My Top 10: Scariest Movie Moments

There are times when I wish I live in America – Halloween is most definitely one of them. I absolutely love it. And it’s just not a big deal over here; the best I can hope for is the opportunity to legitimately dress like a slut for a night. So with Halloween a-looming all things horror have been on my mind recently. I did my Top 10 Horror Films last time, so this year I thought I’d do something different and share my Top 10 Scariest Movie Moments. Read on (and watch) after the jump… and sweet dreams! xoxo
